Power Conversion Products
Manufacturing Facility and Corporate Headquarters—Crystal Lake, Illinois

As a manufacturer of power equipment for the telecommunications industry, PCP required a larger facility to house their entire operation which, until now, had been located in three different facilities. Due to constraints on their existing site, it was necessary to build the facility elsewhere. The new 10-acre property allowed for construction of a 75,000 SF building, with the potential to expand an additional 45,000 SF.

In the early stages of design, the long, narrow site arrangement posed several challenges. After exploring different design approaches, a scheme consisting of a linear building following the contours of the site was developed. This design allows the facility to present itself as an extension of the natural environment.

The manufacturing area is constructed of a steel frame with concrete panels, and the office area is constructed with aluminum curtain wall systems. The 55,000 SF manufacturing area is highly automated and contains several static-free zones.

After eight months of programming and design, and eight months of actual construction, the building was occupied and operational. The building highlights PCP’s manufacturing capabilities, and accommo-dates their needs by providing not only a high-tech image, but efficient, flexible space for their growing company.
