Big Hollow Primary School
Big Hollow School District 38—Ingleside, Illinois

Big Hollow Primary school formed the first piece of a long-range master plan which would create a single campus for the District. The site eventually will house 2,000 students in three buildings. This building, designed to house eight sections of K-2 students, required flexibility to accommodate an initial population of fewer sections of K-3 students on an interim basis.

A pro-active approach was used in order to accommodate future expansion—the cafeteria and kitchen are positioned so that the future Grade 3-5 building can share the food service operation. The future building would be a mirror of the primary building, but with three 8-classroom neighborhoods. The central bus area will eventually serve all three schools on the site. Each building will have its own parking, entrance and administration center.

With the passage of the $29 million building referendum in November 2004, Big Hollow School District 38 is currently developing an Intermediate Grade 3-5 school adjacent to the K-2 facility, as well as a new Middle School to replace Taveirne Middle School. Scheduled construction completion will be in 2006. Please see RuckPate’s Works in Progress page for more information on this growing district’s building program.
